We are taking a deep dive into the American horror classic Halloween (1978), the American slasher film directed and scored by John Carpenter, co-written with producer Debra Hill, and starring Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis in her film debut. I go into details of what makes Halloween so special including what the classic film meant to slasher films and horror in general.

Donald Pleasence played no better role in his long career than Dr. Sam Loomis. His career dates back to the 50s in film and television and Pleasence has a long history of amazing roles in small and large films. I cannot even begin to scratch the surface on the classics that he was in, but outside of his work in the Halloween franchise, I loved his role in Dario Argento’s Phenomena from 1985 as well. If you know Argento beyond just Suspiria, then you probably know Phenomena as well, but if not, you should check this gem out starring Pleasence and a young Jennifer Connelly in only her second film role.

Jamie Lee Curtis became what most people call the preeminent scream queens in a lot of genre fan’s eyes. After her debut in Halloween, she went on the star in The Fog, Prom Night, Terror Train, Roadgames, and Halloween II of course. She even had an uncredited voice cameo in Halloween III: Season of the Witch as a telephone operator. She then went on to films such as Trading Places, A Fish Called Wanda, and so many other non-horror films.
